As a not-for-profit we focus on teaching kids the skills they will need to succeed in life. Our volunteer instructors are all internationally certified and focus their teaching on instilling confidence, respect, hard work and perseverence. Additional benefits include fitness, self-defence, and conflict management skills.

We also encourage family participation through our Family Plan, where we waive adult club memberships fees ($140 per semester savings) for any parent who want to train alongside their kids.

**Parents can acheive a green belt before they will need to join the adults class to progress further if they wish to do so.

Our style was developed by O-Sensei Chitose, who was a doctor and optimized its training methods to provide safe physical conditioning while maintaining maximal effectiveness.  Like most other Karate styles there is an emphasis on character development by focusing on good manners, self-discipline, physical fitness as well as self-defense.

As a traditional karate style with it's roots in Okinawa, Japan, our adult classes include ceremony and etiquette from Japanese culture. We do this to honour the origins or our style and to practice discipline and respect towards each other. Chito Ryu is one of the oldest martial arts in the country, with the head of our style, Sensei Shane Higashi (Hanshi, 10th Dan, Saiko Shihan for the WCRKF and CCRKDA; pictured left) being the first Black Belt award in Canada in 1962.
